The property was acquired by the Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corporation in 2001 and was rebranded to its current name. The Horseshoe Hammond Casino was formed in 1996 as the Empress Casino. It is accessible from Illinois Exit 107 or Indiana Exit 0 on I-90. The venue is about fifteen miles southeast of the Chicago Loop. The Horseshoe is on the banks of Lake Michigan.
